Does anyone get this one? I've had to explain it several times.
Yesterday I went to KC with the Art Club. It was really cool after I threw up twice. I called my dad when I did and he came up later to take me home, but I felt better. He was a little annoyed but he got to go to the art museums with us. I liked the Kemper better than the Nelson-Atkins myself. But the Nelson-Atkins didn't have it's contemporary art on display because of construction so . . . My favorite part of that museum was the big Chinese exhibit where they had a piece of a wall with paintings on it preserved for . . . a long time. There were some original temple pillars and things with it. There were these huge dragons carved into the temple ceiling an this statue of Quan Yin in front of the wall. I bought a poster of that statue. I just love the serene look on her face and her eyes.
It was a great trip except for the bus ride up there. XP
Then today I went with Smit (new name and color for Mr.S) to the art show today to do a still life competition and be do sticky tack monkey work with Jaci. We helped him put up the art and did that still life thing. I was in there for two hours and I got first place! Yay! I got third on that group project which was the only other thing of mine Smit entered. Jaci got first in one category and maybe second in another. She had a bunch of stuff in the contest.
We didn't win a whole lot but the judges were really conservative and they picked the lamest stuff in most cases. The Best in Show for high school was this picture of these skull with water oil pastels and newspaper. It wasn't that great.
But I've spent most of this weekend with Smit. Had to be at school super early on Friday and early on Saturday, too. Ah, the sacrifices one must make for one's art . . .
